Jimmy Anderson grabbed a consolation wicket in Lyon's final over to finish with figures of 4-33. But it was Lyon who was the hero of the hour, taking his career tally to 400 Test wickets.
The win gives Australia a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The second Test starts at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday.
